I am finding this whole musical-writing thing to be rather difficult. How exactly does one go about writing a musical when one is bookwriter, composer, AND lyricist? I just don’t know. Do you write the music to the book? The lyrics to the music? The music to the lyrics? The book to the music? Or do you just go with the flow of the muses?
Also, I feel like this is going to be a musical comprised only of ballads and simple harmonies and disonances. Because when I fall in love with a musical, it is those parts that I fall in love with first, and as a result, I think they are all I am naturally capable of composing. I’ve never written a legitimately upbeat song in my life. Even the non-melancholic ones are still pretty mellow, ya know? Also, writing songs for MT is much different than doing it just because. Now the entire song has to serve a purpose and tell some sort of story.
I have all of Act I premised (?) and now I just need to figure out where Act II is going to go… There needs to be a resolving of some issues, but I feel like these issues may have been addressed too many/enough times already.

P.S. If I removed facebook from my life, I would have SO much more time to work on this before the summer is over. But I would never remove tumblr from my life (♥). Not ever. :D
